Getting ready for Summer

So I guess the 1/8th drivers are coming out of hibernation and the dirt season is almost upon us again! Couple of new shells this week, one something old, one something new.

First up a JConcepts shell for 'Crazy' Lionel Croucher. I've done a few shells for Crazy L over the last few years using his normal scheme. This ones much the same, but with some added stars for good measure. Should look good getting mullered on track ;-)

Next up was a Bitty Design shell, sprayed as a replica of the factory design. It was good fun to do, as it's a bit different to my normal style; there's something kinda 80's about it, but in a good way. And the pink's so loud you could probably see it from space!

Remember, if you're looking for some fresh paint, what ever scale, on-road or off, hit me up at themagoo@hotmail.co.uk and I'll get you sorted!

So based on my current workload, and the number of them I've sprayed in the last couple of weeks Supastox are the new big thing in RC Racing! Here are a few pictures of GT shells that will soon be tearing up the South Coast!
Aston Martin for Mark 'Bryners' Byrne
This thing is bright!
The Ascarii shell is pretty popular with racers
Team shells for a couple of local racers. These should stand out on the carpet!

Something quick and simple

Probably the simplest paint job ever! This was done for a local racer who was desperate to get his RB6 going for the weekend. So he got in touch with PbM, we jumped in and got him going with a nice simple paint job within 12 hours of getting the shell. Not what we normally do, but if you need a similar service give us a brll anf see what we can do!

Here's an interesting step by step photo strip of a shell I've just completed for local racer Brian Burgess, starting from liquid mask and photographed at each stage until it's done. At the point of the first photo the design work was done, and all of the cuts had been made.

Weeded out the black areas, and sprayed a couple of coats
Next the blue areas get weeded out ready for paint
A darker blue drop shadow, followed by fluorescent blue, backed with white
A mix of flo red and orange for a drop shadow
Now the main orange goes dowm
The white areas are weeded, and the whole body is shot white
It's not a Paint by Magoo shell if there's no smiley!
At this point the outer protective film comes off, along with all the design work. Suddenly all the lines are crisp, the colours pop and if soooo shiny!

If you want some Paint by Magoo, just give me a yell... themagoo@hotmail.co.uk!

Favorite shells of 2012

So here we are, New Years 2013... time to look back on the year that was 2013 at PbM and look at some of the shells that have left the booth over the last 12 months.

This year it's been all about the 10th off-road shells, and in particular a number for the guys running a TORCH (www.torchracing.co.uk). I've been running electric exclusively this year, and so probably not surprisingly that accounts for most of my output.

Here are a few of my favorites from the year.

First up, my new scheme for 2013. I wanted something simple, clean and bright (the eyesight isn't all it once was!), so this was what I came up with and will be running on the Kyosho 4wd and Schumacher 2wd next season. With the fluorescent red and chrome it certainly pops, even on the dullest of winter days.

One of the cars of the season has to be the Rudebits DB1 shaft driven 2wd. This conversion kit that fuses 2wd front-end with 4wd rear-end has been an absolute revelation, and I've been lucky enough to spray a couple of the distinctive cab-forward shells. Blue, yellow and white seems a pretty common theme, in at least one case as a tribute to Leeds United, who I'm told are a football team...

Finally, probably my favorite scheme, on one of my least favorite shells (sorry Team Extreme and Vega drivers everywhere!). Here's my take on Mikey Scott's paint scheme, sadly I think he sold the car before ever running the shell...

There have been a bunch more through the year, sadly I just wasn't organised enough to photograph them all before shipping them out!

New year, new paint?

Well, 2012 is pretty much done now, and with 2013 just around the corner are you looking for new colours for the new year? Or may be you just want a new shell to freshen up your ride.

With the Christmas rush behind us the waiting list for shells is now back down to a more sensible level, so if you'd like us to spray something for you please do get in touch via the normal means (OopleFacebook or the email link on the right).

Welcome to our Blog!

Welcome to Paint by Magoo's new blog! We'll be using this little corner of the Internet to keep you up to date with all the goings on at PbM, projects we're working on, completed shells and occasionally events we're attending. We'll also keep you up to date with the waiting times for shells, so you have an idea of how busy we are before getting in touch.

We might even give you some behind the scenes tips and tricks for those who like to try their own jobs, but of course we'd rather you let us do it ;-)

In the meantime please pop over to the 'About' page to find out a bit more about us, and what we can do for you!
